Teacher couple hacked in Kushtia

Machete-wielding assailants hacked a teacher couple to wound in a residential area in Kushtia district town in the early hours of Wednesday. The injured are – Ali Isha, 52, chairman of Islamic Studies department of Kushtia Government College and his wife Shamsunnahar Khanam, 45, lecturer of KSM College in the district. Ali Isha said: “A gang of miscreants stormed into our room around 3:30am and started beating me with iron rods. After hearing my scream Shamsunnahar came forward to save me. Then the gang started hacking both of us with machetes, leaving her critically injured.” Later, locals rescued them and sent the couple to Kushtia General Hospital. Shahabuddin Chowdhury, officer-in charge of Kushtia model police, said: “Miscreants just attacked on them but did not take valuables from the rooms. They might have carried the attacks due to previous enmity.” No case was filed yet in this regard, added the OC.
