Youth tortured to death: Jubo League leader placed on remand

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate FM Ahsanul Haque passed the order after investigation officer of the case Shyamal Kumar Barmon filed a petition seeking seven day remand. The court also fixed November 10 for the next hearing.  Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people in connection with the murder of Monjurul Islam on Thursday. The arrestees are – Golam Mirza Mamun, 35, son of Abdul Matin of Khodmadhab area and Mithun, 30, son of Yusuf Ali, a resident of Uposhohor area in the district town. On November 1, Monjurul Islam, a young truck helper allegedly tortured in the rest house at Tayeba Mazumdar Red Crescent Blood Bank succumbed to his injuries at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. Monjurul Islam’s family said he was inhumanely tortured. Monjurul was allegedly abducted on the night of October 25 and tortured about drug shipments in the truck he was on.
