A man has been shot to death by robbers in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.
The deceased is Jahangir Bepari, 34, son of Nurul Islam Bepari of Bhadrason, police said.
Four more people were injured during shooting by the robbers.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar police station Abul Khayer said some 10-12 masked robbers entered into the house of Jungle Saha, a local trader in the area, at around 3am on Wednesday.
The dacoits put the people under arms and tried to flee away with the valuables. After hearing hue and cry, the people in the neighbourhood tried to catch them, said Khayer.
To evade the catch-up the robbers opened fire on them and neighbour Jahangir died on spot, he added.
Susanto Saha, 38, Prasanto Saha, 30, Champa Saha, 30 and the house owner Jungle Saha, 68 were injured and admitted to Shibchar Upazilla Health Complex.
Khokhon Saha, elder son of Jungle Saha, said the robbers looted some 20 tolas of gold, TK1 lakh in cash and several cell phones.
Meanwhile, police arrested Shahidul Islam, 30, son of Hazrat Matobbor of the locality, with his speculative involvement with the looting. Police are searching other members of the gang, Khayer added.
