A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a bus driver to three-year rigorous imprisonment for killing a retired government official in a road accident in the capital.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha pronounced the verdict in the presence of convict Md Jamal Hossain, 40, driver of a Shohagh Paribahan bus. The court also fined the convict Tk7,000 and warned him of an additional three months in jail if he failed to pay it.
According to the case, on February 15, 2010, the driver ran over Monowar Hossain, 65, a former general manager of Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC), at Manik Mia Avenue of the capital.
The same day, the victim’s younger brother filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla police station.
