528 gold bars, 5 sacks full of currencies seized

Customs Intelligence officials and detectives, in a drive, have seized huge foreign currencies from an apartment in the capital’s Nayapaltan area.

Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Moinul Khan endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.

“Acting on a tip-off, customs intelligence along with DB personnel of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive at the sixth floor of the house No 29/1, owned by Mohammad Ali, around 4pm on Thursday,” he said.

Later, law enforcers seized five sacks full of foreign and local currencies from the apartment around 6:30pm, he added.

At least 528 gold bars weighing about 61 kg were also recovered from the apartment, said the official.

However, he did not disclose the number of the arrestees.

The drive was underway in the adjacent flats of the house till filling of the report at 8pm.
