Police have nabbed a listed mugger who is a son of local Jatiya Patry's (JaPa) female leader.
Acting on a tip-off, Saddam Hossain, 23, son of Rabeya Basri Bakul, local JP leader, was arrested from city’s Shah Amanat Bridge area on Wednesday night, Bakalia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammed Mohsin told the Dhaka Tribune.
Saddam was accused in four cases lodged with Bakalia police station.
The OC said Saddam allegedly snatched away a cell phone from one Nurul Islam at Shah Amanat Bridge area of Bakalia at around 9pm on Wednesday.
“Receiving complaint from Nurul, police raided the Shah Amanat Bridge area and held the mugger from the place”, said the OC.
The snatched cell phone was also recovered from Saddam's possession, said the police official.
Saddam's mother, Rabeya contested in last Chittagong City Corporation election for the post of reserved female councilor, said police sources.
Rabeya also allegedly controls the female criminal activities in Bakalia area using her political identity.
