Police arrest 2 AL men in physician assault cases

Two Awami League men have been arrested from the capital’s Sher-E-Bangla Nagar on Thursday.
The arrestees are Alamgir Hossain, Shariatpur Sadar upazila vice-chairman, and Khalilur Rahman, an activist of Awami League as they were accused in police and a physician assault cases in
Shariatpur.
Residential Medical Officer of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital Dr Sumon Kumar Poddar filed a case on Tuesday accusing the arrestees and Akter Hossain Dhali, recently expelled vice-president of
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Shariatpur Sadar upazila unit, for forcibly trying to obtain a fake medical certificate and assaulting a policeman.
Sub-Inspector of Palong police station Nazrul Islam also filed a case against them for assaulting the policeman.
However, the police have been trying to arrest Akter.
The police and the hospital sources said Akter along with his uncle Alamgir went to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon for obtaining the certificate.
An altercation took place between a physician and Akter when the physician refused him to give the fake certificate.
At one stage, When Selim intervened in the matter and talked in favour of the doctor, Akhter assaulted him severely, causing eardrum damage to him.
Selim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
