Two police officials have been injured when unidentified miscreants made an attack on a police convoy and snatched away an accused in Muktagacha upazila of the district.
The injured policemen are Shahinur and Rezaul Karim, assistant sub-inspectors of Muktagacha police station, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.
They were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, he said.
Police, in a raid, arrested Abdullah, an accused of 77 cases, from Chandpur area of the upazila.
The incident took place on Wednesday noon when policemen were returning to the police station along with Abdullah.
“The assailants attacked with locally made sharp weapons and snatched away the accused, leaving two policemen injured,” the police official said.
The injured police officials were first admitted to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
A police drive is underway to arrest the accused.
On February 23, in a cinematic operation, members of banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) killed a policeman and snatched three of their top detained operatives from a prison van in Trishal of Mymensingh on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
