A local leader of Awami League sustained bullet wounds in a gun attack by miscreants at Latifpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday.
Faruk Hossain was the vice-president of Chandraganj union unit AL.
Police said a group of criminals swooped on Faruk in the area and fired several shots at him while he was going to a local market from his house.
He was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.
In protest, AL activists blocked the Lakshmipur-Chowmuhani Road for one an hour. Later, police brought the situation under control.
Humayun Kabir, OC of Chandraganj police station, confirmed the incident.
Additional policemen were deployed in the area.
