A Chittagong court on Saturday has sent seven activists of banned Islamic outfit Hizb-ut -Tahrir to jail in a case of anti-terrorist act filed in Chittagong city’s Kotwali police station.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Masfiqul Rahman passed the order against the accused after producing them before the court, said Assistant Commissioner (AC) (prosecution) Nirmolendu Bikash Chowakrabarty of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
The seven men are Safayet Yasir Iqbal, Ariful Islam, Rayhanul Islam, Iftekharul Islam, Nur Mohammed, Arif Mohammed Bilwal and Sufian.
Of them, Safayet and Raihanul are the students of Hazi Muhammed Government College while the rest are students of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), said police.
Earlier police detained 12 Hizb-ut-Tahrir men from Anderkillah Shahi Jam –e Masjid area in possession with leaflets while they were distributing the leaflets of the banned outfit on Friday after Juma prayer.
