The name of suspended general manager (east zone) Yusuf Ali Mridha of Bangladesh Railway was not mentioned in two charge sheets submitted yesterday in the cases lodged by the ACC over irregularities in recruitment as his involvement could not be proved, officials say.
Anti-Corruption Commission Assistant Director SM Rashedur Reza submitted the charge sheets before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Judge Moshiur Rahman.
“As the investigation officer did not find any involvement of Mridha in the cases, his name was not mentioned in the charge sheets,” he said.
ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedur Reza on September 13, 2012 lodged a case with Kotwali police accusing 34 persons including Mridha, former senior welfare officer Golam Kibria and former additional chief mechanical engineer Hafizur Rahman in connection with the irregularities in recruitment for the assistant loco master post.
The investigation officer submitted the charge sheet accusing 32 persons including Kibria. Of them, 30 are on the run.
On April 17 last year, ACC Assistant Director Kamruzzaman filed another case with the same police Station accusing 32 persons including Mridha and Kibria in connection with the irregularities in recruitment for code inspector (grade I).
Railway sources said the east zone had issued seven advertisements in October and November of 2010 to fill up 3,419 vacant posts under 38 categories. A total 14 cases were lodged in the last two years regarding irregularities in the recruitment for different posts in the east zone.
With the latest two, the ACC has submitted eight charge sheets.
Mridha’s name was not mentioned in four cases, lodged in connection with irregularities in recruitment of goods assistant, record keeper, assistant loco master and code inspector (grade I).
Border Guard Bangladesh personnel seized Tk70 lakh from a microbus of sacked APS Omar Faruk of then railways minister Suranjit Sengupta on April 9, 2012. Mridha and railway’s security commandant (Dhaka divisional) Enamul Haque were also in the car.
Suranjit resigned following the incident while his APS, Mridha and Enamul were also suspended. After that, the ACC started investigation into the recruitment irregularities.
