Arrest of rapist-killer of a minor girl demanded

An angry mob blocked the road at Natun Bazar in the capital demanding the arrest of the killers of a minor girl, halting traffic movement for more than an hour yesterday.

Hundreds of locals, including students of local educational institutions, took to the street, burnt tyres, blocked roads, halting traffic movement around 11am.

They alleged that police were reluctant to arrest the killers of the victim Farzana Akhter Liza.

Later the police drove them away from the street.

Liza, daughter of car driver Faruk Hossain, was found stuffed in a plastic sack floating in a pond at Saidnagar on Tuesday, a day after she went missing.

During the agitation, the demonstrators set fire to tyres on the road adjacent to Bhatara police station.

Nazrul Islam, a sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station, said Liza, 9, went out of her house to buy a pencil on Monday afternoon and went missing.

Later locals saw a sack floating on the pond and found the body there. The girl’s hands were tied and there were marks of injury on different parts of her body, said police.

Investigation Officer of the case Abu Al Bashar said they had arrested a local youth Sourav in connection with the murder on Thursday and produced him before a Dhaka court.
