A Dhaka court has pronounced death penalty for two JMB members in a police source murder case.
The convicted are Md Saiful Islam alias Rasel, 28, son of late Kamal Uddin, of Foraji Banda Sarker Bari area under Bandar police station of Narayanganj, and Abdur Rahman alias Fahad, 30, son of late Mokhlesur Rahman of Binod Nagar area of Nawabganj police station under Dinajpur district.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 judge ABM Nazimul Haque passed the order around 11pm on Wednesday.
The case statement stated that acting on a tip-off Tangail police along with their informant Md Jainal Abedin, son of late Lal Mia of Kabila Manipur village of Comilla, started checking cars and public transports as they had news that terrorists were carrying arms and explosive on December 29, 2006.
The duo was travelling in a public transport named Shyamoly Paribahan and when they saw the police checking the transport they were on, they fired three rounds of bullets.
The firing caused injury of the informant and an inspector. However, the police managed to arrest the duo from the spot.
On that day the injured Traffic Inspector Md Abdur Rob filed a case with Tangail police station.
The injured Jainal was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. And eventually he died on January 13, 2007.
