A housewife was critically injured as a miscreant attacked her with sharp knife at her house in the capital’s Hazaribagh area yesterday.
The victim, Soheli Begum, wife of Jahangir Alam, was under treatment at Square Hospital, police said.
Hearing Soheli scream, locals rushed to the house and caught one Harun-ur-Rashid, 23, who was later handed over to the police.
Quoting family members, Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Abdul Baten said, some three to four youths entered the house at the second floor of a four-storey building in the area around 11:00am.
Jahangir Alam, who was also in the house when the miscreants attacked them, filed an attempted murder case with Hazaribagh Police Station in this connection.
Police, however, could not say what the motive of the attack was.
“We are investigating the incident, after which we can say whether it was an attempt of robbery or happened following a previous enmity,” Mainul Alam, officer-in-charge of the police said.
