One died in capital’s National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) yesterday after being shot in a police firing in Narsingdi on Sunday night.
The dead was identified as Mahidul Islam, 50, hailing from Itna upazila of Kishoreganj.
On Sunday night a clash erupted between police and local people after police arrested the imam of Baroicha Bus Stand Mosque Ali Akbar for allegedly barring around 20 Tablighi Jamaat men, who wanted to spent the night at the mosque.
Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets to calm the situation, leaving at least two dead and 20 people injured.
The other dead in the incident was Selim Miya, 40, a rickshaw-puller hailing from Lochonpura area of Raypura upazila. He used to reside near the Baroicha Bus Stand Mosque at a rented house.
Two separate probe committees have been made by the district administration and the police to investigate the incident.
Local MP Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun condemned the incident after visiting the spot.
Additional DIG of police Shafiqul Islam said investigation was going on. Legal steps would be taken against anyone proven guilty.
