Protest rally for AL leader Faruque murder

A procession was brought out in Tangail district town yesterday afternoon in protest of the killing of Awami League leader Faruque Ahmed, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

The procession, organised by Freedom Fighter Sector Commanders’ Forum and Tangail district unit Freedom Fighters ‘71 along with family members of the AL leader, started from Shaheed Smrity Poura Udyan and paraded the main streets of the town, ending at Tangail Shaheed Minar premises.

Later, a rally was held at the shaheed minar premises presided over by the AL leader’s wife Nahar Ahmed. Awami League district unit Joint Secretary Zoharul Islam, former president of district unit Jubo League and President of Sector Commanders’ Forum Shawkat Reza, district unit Jubo League Secretary Tareq Poton,  Vice- President of central unit Chhatra League Mahmudul Hasan Maruf and Sumon Ahmed, eldest son of Faruque Ahmed, spoke at the rally among others.

Speakers demanded immediate arrest of the killers and bring them under trial.

On January 18, 2013, AL leader and freedom fighter Faruque Ahmed,60, was shot dead by unknown criminals. His body was recovered near his residence at College Para of Tangail district town. Faruque, was a member of the district AL unit committee and also a former joint secretary of the same unit.
