The International Crimes Tribunal 1 found primary evidence of involvement of two war crimes suspects in crimes against humanity committed at different parts of Netrokona district during the Liberation War in 1971.
The war crime suspects are Obaidul Haque alias Taher and Ataur Rahman alias Noni. The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal 1 yesterday said this at a press conference at its Dhanmondi office.
Senior investigator Abdul Hannan Khan said: “The probe started on June 6 last year and we have recorded testimony of 32 persons. We have primarily found proof of their involvement in crimes against humanity in 1971.”
According to the agency, the war crimes suspects Taher and Noni were involved in abduction and killing of at least 15 persons and looting and setting fire to more than 400-450 houses in Netrokona.
Investigation Officer Shahjahan Kabir will submit his probe report to the prosecution office. After scrutiny, the prosecution will submit it to the tribunal for taking the charges into cognisance and charge framing.
Abdul Hannan said, razakars led by Obaidul and Ataur abducted one Fazlur Rahman Talukder from Baushi Bazar under Barhatta police station on August 17, 1971.
After torture at Netrokona Zila Parishad they killed him at Trimohoni Bazar. They also looted and set fire to at least 400-450 shops in Baushi Bazar.
He said, the accused abducted then famous footballer Dabir Hossain from Barhatta of Netrokona City. He was shot dead on Moktarpara Bridge after torture.
According to one of the charges, Moshrof Ali Talukder, among others, were abducted 10 people on October 12, 1971 and shot dead seven of the detainees. At about 11am the accused abducted six more people including one Badiuzzaman Mukto.
On August 12, this year police arrested taher and Noni in Netrakona for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed in the district in 1971 after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 had issued warrants of arrest against them.
