A mobile court of the upazila administration, led by Milton Chandra Roy, assistant commissioner (land), Dimla, conducted a drive in Jhunagash area on Friday and fined rice dealers Chhaminur Rahman and Ataur Rahman Tk50000 each for selling low quality rice.
Milton said: “The two dealers used to sell low quality rice among 1088 card holders. During the drive, we seized 183 sacks of rotten rice from their possession.”
Rezual Karim, upazila nirbahi officer of Dimla, said: “Being informed from the locals that Chhaminur Rahman and Ataur Rahman used to sell low quality rice among the card holders, a team of upazila administration led by Milton Chandra Roy, assistant commissioner (land) and Moffazzel Hossain, upazila food controller, conducted the drives against them on Friday.
“They also forced the two dealers to stop selling the rotten rice and fined them to Tk50,000 each in this connection under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.”
After the drive, the dealers started to sell good quality rice from Saturday morning under the supervision of upazila food controller.
“If the two dealers will sell good quality rice in future otherwise their license will be cancelled,” said the UNO.
Aminur Rahman, chairman of Jhunagash union, confirmed the matter saying that the two dealers had been selling low quality rice for long.
