Rapid Action Battalion has nabbed two persons with 22,300 pieces of Yaba tablets from Chittagong city’s Kala Mia Bazar area.
The RAB personnel recovered Tk7.66 lakh from their possession which was earned by selling Yaba.
RAB-7 Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Mifta Uddin said a RAB-7 team nabbed Abul Kalam and Abdur Rahim, of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar district, from the area under Bakalia police station at around 10:30am on Saturday following a tip-off and they found 22,300 pieces of Yaba pills worth Tk90 lakh from their possession.
The duo was involved with Yaba peddling in the port city for a long while collecting the contraband items from Teknaf, he said.
The arrestees and the seized items were handed over to Bakalia police station while a case was lodged with the police station in this connection.
With the recovery, RAB-7 in separate drives in 2014 seized a total of 3,37,163 pieces of Yaba pills from its jurisdictional areas.
According to the Department of Narcotic Control, around 37 Yaba factories are at Mongdu in Myanmar which is close to Teknaf.
About 90% of smuggled Yaba pills are entering into the country crossing the Naf River and those Yaba pills are distributed across the country through Chittagong by rail, road and sea routes.
