The International Crimes Tribunal 1 yesterday asked the prosecution to submit on November 20, the investigation report on detained war crimes accused Obaidul Huq alias Abu Taher and Ataur Rahman alias Noni of Netrokona.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim set the date after going through the progress report of the investigation agency on war crimes accused Taher and another.
While submitting the progress report, designated prosecutor Mukhlesur Rahman sought more time mentioning that the investigation was at its last stage and the probe body had already recorded statements of 32 witnesses in connection with the case.
According to the prosecution, the investigation agency started investigation on June 6 last year. After hearing the prosecutor, the tribunal fixed the deadline for submission of the investigation report.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly killed Badiuzzaman Mukta, a valiant freedom fighter, during the Liberation War. Nephew of the martyred freedom fighter filed a case in 2010 with the judicial magistrate court of Netrokona accusing 12 anti-liberation force members including Taher and Noni. The magistrate forwarded the case to the International Crimes Tribunals.
Police captured the accused hours after the tribunal issued warrants for their arrest following a prosecution plea in August.
Meanwhile, in another case against Abdul Jabbar Engineer, the prosecution’s witness number 17 was supposed be placed before the tribunal yesterday.
However, the tribunal fixed November 2 for further hearing on the case after telling both prosecution and defence that the tribunal required some preparations as Wednesday was fixed for delivering the verdict against Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.
