Local Jubo League leader and treasurer of Sonamasjid Land Port Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association Monirul Islam was allegedly murdered by his co-workers in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday.
In protest of the killing, port workers and C&F agents continued demonstration for the second day yesterday halting all kinds of export-import activities through the port.
Manirul’s wife Rahima Khatun Baby yesterday filed a murder case with Shibganj police station against 13 identified and seven to eight unidentified people.
Two of the three arrested in this connection – Vice-President of the Port C&F Agents Association Sirajul Islam Munci and secretary Tohurul Islam Tutul – yesterday confessed to the Chapainawabganj Chief Judicial Magistrate court of being directly involved with the murder, said Investigative Officer of the case Abul Kalam Azad. Senior Judicial Magistrate Nur Nabi recorded their statements.
Police have filed petition seeking seven-day remand for the other detained Akhirul Islam, president of the Sonamasjid Land Port Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association.
Islam was shot dead around 7 pm on Friday while returning from a wedding ceremony.
Shibganj police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
