Housewife’s hanging body found in capital

A body of a housewife hanging from a ceiling fan was recovered from a residence in capital’s Pallabi area yesterday.

The deceased is Tania Akter, 22, wife of Ratan Miji, an expatriate in Bahrain.

Pallabi police station Sub-Inspector Md Farooq-uz-Zaman said: “Yesterday Tania’s in-laws informed us that she had committed suicide at 10am. A team of police then went to the spot and recovered the dead body of the girl hanging from the ceiling fan. There were no marks of injury on her body.”

Tania’s uncles Abul Hossain and Jahir Uddin said Tania married to Ratan one-and-a-half years ago. Although she was supposed to go to Bahrain and live with her husband, her in-laws were creating obstacles.

“Ten days ago Tania had submitted all necessary papers to go to Bahrain. She was expected to travel in the first week of next month. The annoyed in-laws killed her and hanged her body when they failed to cancel her trip,” said Abul Hossain.

They said they would file a case against Tania’s in-laws with Pallabi police station.
