Two snatchers held in Savar

Locals have caught two women at Jirabo bus-stand area in Ashulia of Savar while they were hijacking another woman in a public bus.

The detainees are Mita, 22, wife of one Jewel in Comilla, and Sajeda Khatun, 25, wife of Shah Alam of the same area.

Later, they were handed over to the Ashulia police station.

Azharul Islam, Ashulia police station inspector and officer-in-charge (Investigation), confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.

Locals said Shampa Begum got on minibus from Narasinghapur area to go to Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. When the bus reached in Jirabo bus-stand area, the two women sitting beside her began to beat her without any reason, Shampa and witnesses said. 

At one point, they tried to get down from the bus snatching a gold chain, mobile phone and cash from Shampa.

During the time, the other passengers caught the two women, hearing Shampa’s screaming. 

The passengers recovered the chains and mobile phones from them and handed over to police. 

On information, Ashulia police rushed to the spot and arrested them.

The two women were brought to the police station and a case was filed in this regard, said the police official.
