Throat-slit body of madrasa student recovered

Police yesterday recovered a throat-slit body of an 11-year old Madrasa student from South Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital.

The deceased was identified as Rayhan Roni, a student of Tahfizul Quran Nurani Hafizia Madrasa of Kaliganj of South Keraniganj.

“Rayhan, hailing from Comilla, was a Hafiz-e-Quran student at the residential madrasa for the last four years,” Nurul Huda, a staff of Madrasa Mosque, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Huda also said he found Rayhan’s body lying on the madrasa’s kitchen floor when he went there after Fajr prayers.

Blaming the madrasa’s authorities for Rayhan’s death, Shab Mia, grandfather of victim, said his family would file a case against the madrasa authorities in this regard.

During a visit to the madrasa, this correspondent failed to reach any madrasa official as all eleven of them, including teachers and security guards, were now under police custody.

The madrasa’s Principal Abu Bakkar, who arrived in the capital last night after performing Hajj, was also unavailable to comment over the incident.

The victim’s body was handed over to his family after an autopsy was conducted at Sir Salimullah Medical and Mitford Hospital, he added.
