‘18 servers hosting pirated copies of Aynabaji’

Nazmul Islam, senior assistant commissioner of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit’s cyber crime team made the disclosure saying that 15 servers from abroad and three from Bangladesh were hosting the unauthorised copy of the movie. They also found around 25 Facebook links to pirated copies of the movie. “We have blocked all the foreign links but kept the three links hosted by local servers under observation. The servers are from Uttara, Badda and Khilkhet,” he said. The CTTC team suspects that a total of 50 people are involved with the piracy. On Wednesday, CTTC cyber crime unit detained one Atikur Rahman Ovi from Dhaka’s Badda area on charges of pirating the movie. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said: “Our CTTC team started investigating allegations of the piracy and arrested Ovi from Badda area.” “We have identified the mastermind of the piracy ring and police are trying to arrest him,” he added. Condemning the piracy, Aynabaji producer Syed Gousul Alam Shaon said: “The film is a fruit of two years of hard work. If we do not stop piracy then the entire film industry will be affected.” He also said the team will take legal action against the company that failed to ensure proper security after availing the right to show the movie online. However, he did not mention the name of that company. Private satellite channels used for showing pirated movies Criminals inolved in movie and music piracy has developed a new way to get their wares to customers by collaborating with local cable operators who air movies and music videos, said Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). They have recently arrested a piracy gang and their ring leaders through several operations, said RAB sources. Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of RAB media and legal wing, said: “RAB officials were able to close down two private channels earlier this month and arrested its managing director Ibrahim Hossain Hawlader and three others for broadcasting pirated movies and music videos.” The RAB director also said: “Previously the frauds gangs used to make CDs from the original copies and sold them at the shops but now the gangs directly broadcast pirated movies through illegal channels.” “The two closed illegal channels are HB Tv and Neha Tv. We arrested Selim, the leader of the largest piracy gang in the country,” the RAB media director said. Mohammad Khasru, convenor of Movement Against Piracy, said: “Hakim was behind the illegal TV channels. HB TV means Hakim Bangladesh Tv and Neha is his daughter. He has been involved in CD piracy for a long.” RAB sources said, they obtained a list of 11 gangs and among them three major gangs have already been busted.
