A college professor was killed in a road crash in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday morning.
The dead Joynul Abedin, 60, was son of late Hamidur Rahman of Sitakunda upazila, said police sources. He was a professor of Bijoy Smarani Degree College of Bhatiary in the upazila.
Sub-Inspector Kamal Uddin of Sitakunda police station said a Chittagong-bound stone laden truck ran over the professor while he was waiting for transport beside the road in Edulpara Bypass Road under Sitakunda Municipality area around 9:30am, leaving him spot dead.
The body was handed over to the family members without autopsy after completing all the legislative process, the SI said adding that police have seized the truck involved in the accident.
A case was lodged in this connection while the truck driver and its assistant managed to flee after the incident.
