Kidnapped youths rescued from Gazipur after two days

Police rescued two young men, who had been abducted by some unidentified miscreants from the capital two days ago, in a critical condition from the Naskarchala area under Gazipur Municipality yesterday.

During the abduction, the abductors beat up the youths mercilessly, who were at first admitted to Gazipur Sadar Hospital in a sorry state and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

The victims are Tuhin Miah, 30, son of Rafiz Uddin, and Basir Uddin, 29, son of Nasir Uddin. They hail from the Gabtali area of Taltali upazila of Barguna district.

Tuhin’s brother Liton Miah said the abductees had been staying in Mirpur for several months in search of job and one known person of them on Wednesday called them to Gazipur, promising to give a job.

At one stage, the man along with other miscreants confined them to a room and they started demanding a ransom of Tk5 lakh from their family members to buy freedom for them. As the abductors failed to realise the ransom money despite passing two after the kidnap, they beat up Tuhin and Basir mercilessly and afterwards dumped them on a road of the area. Later, locals spotted them in the area in the morning and informed police.

Earlier, the family members in the incident lodged a general diary with Mirpur 2 police station when they did not return home on the day of abduction and found their mobile phone sets switched off as well.

Joydevpur Chakrabarty police outpost Sub-Inspector Jakir Hossain said Mirpur 2 police station would deal with the matter as the general diary had been filed there.

Liton said his brother and Basir were unable to make any statement as the miscreants inhumanely hit them as well as the head failing to realise the ransom.
