A mobile court in Chittagong city yesterday sealed off an illegal herbal medicine factory and sentenced its owner to six-month imprisonment.
The court, led by Chittagong District Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Rakib Hasan, also seized and destroyed 37 cartons of different herbal medicines from the factory.
According to KM Muhsinin Mahbub, an official of Chittagong Drug Administration, Janata Pharmaceuticals, located in the city’s Syed Shah Ali Road, had no legal permission or license to manufacture the herbal medicines.
“There was no certified Ayurvedic doctor as per the rule of drug administration. Moreover, the medicines were substandard and harmful to human health,” he said.
The factory used to manufacture 16 types of herbal medicines and sold them in local market.
Magistrate Rakib said, such illegal herbal medicine factories were in great numbers in the port city.
“The district administration is conducting drive to close down such factories and ensure proper health care for people,” he added.
A team of RAB-7, led by the camp’s Second-in-Command Assistant Superintendent of Police SM Mobassher Hossain, assisted the court in the drive.
