A village doctor, colloquially called Palli Chikitsak, has allegedly found his land grabbed overnight at Sripur upazila in Gazipur.
The person who has been accused of the land grab however said he has just reclaimed his own land, not grabbed it because it was the village doctor who had been grabbing it for three years.
Village doctor Kamal Hossain, son of Ilyas Mridha of Telighati village, said: “Abul Kashem, son of Abdul Jabbar of the same village, along with over 100 people, grabbed his land by putting a barbed fence around it around 3am on Friday, which I have inherited for 30 years.”
He claimed that Kashem had applied many tricks to grab this land but had failed in the past and so he has flexed his muscles to grab it.
Kashem however denied the allegation and said: “I have reclaimed my own land, not grabbed it because it is he who had been barring me from taking it over since I bought it from his uncle Ali Akbar in 2009.”
When Sripur model police station officer-in-charge Mohsinul Kadir was asked about this, he said: “I have received a written complaint from Kamal about this.
As it is a land-related matter, I cannot say anything about it for sure without looking through the land documents.
“However, we will handover this land to whoever has the valid land documents.”
In a recent study, Dhaka division, under which Gazipur falls, has been cited as the most land conflict prone region of the country, closely followed by Sylhet.
