Medicine factory sealed off in Chittagong

A mobile court has sealed off an illegal ayurvedic medicine factory in Chittagong city's Syed Shah Ali road area. The court led by Chittagong District Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate, Rakib Hasan, also sentenced the factory owner, Jewel Pal, 27, to six months of imprisonment. Thirty seven cartons of herbal machines were also seized from the factory. KM Muhsinin Mahbub, Drug Administration Chittagong’s superintendent of drugs, who was with the court, said: “Janata Pharmaceuticals has no legal permission or license to manufacture the herbal medicines.” He said there was no Kabiraz (Ayurvedic Doctor) according to the rule of drug administration, and the medicines were also substandard and harmful for human health. The factory used to manufacture 16 types of herbal medicines and marketing the medicines into the local market, Mahbub added. Magistrate Rakib said: “District administration will continue its drive to close down such factories.”
