A school girl was brutally beaten by a stalker for refusing marriage and sexual proposal at Narayanpara village of Tebaria union of Sadar upazila in Natore early yesterday.
The victim, Habiba Akter Himi, a student of class nine of RK Dulu Model High School and daughter of Abdul Hanif, was admitted to Natore sadar hospital following the assault.
The perpetrator was identified as Imran Hossain Tusher, step-son of Abdur Rahim of the same village.
Abdus Sattar, inspector (investigation) of sadar police station said, Tusher had been regularly harassing Himi on her way to school for the last one year. At one stage, Himi informed her father, who then took the matter to Tusher’s guardians. Being enraged, Tusher physically assaulted Himi’s father and geared up his teasing activities.
On the day of the incident, Tusher went to Himi’s residence at around 10:30am when no one was at home. He again proposed marriage. But upon being refused, he tried to sexually assault Himi and at one point started beating her. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and found Himi in a badly injured condition. Tusher managed to flee.
A team of sadar police raided Tusher’s house and detained his step-father Abdur Rahim to know the whereabouts of Tusher.
