Tk3 crore lifted from G4S Chittagong office

A miscreant has allegedly lifted Tk3 crore from the office of Group Four Security (G4S) Services Bangladesh Private Limited in Chittagong city’s Khulshi residential area on early Sunday.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (North Zone) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Paritosh Ghosh told Dhaka Tribune that G4S Senior Manager Tarique Mansur complained that an unknown person lifted Tk three crore, keeping the sum in two small volts, from the office building at road number 4 of Khulshi area sometime from Saturday night to the early hours of Sunday.

“The security agency authorities, however, noticed the matter on Sunday night by analysing their CCTVs,” said the DC, quoting Tariq.

“We are looking into the matter and trying to nab the thief,” added the DC.

Meanwhile, Khulshi police took the security agency’s Front Desk Staff Rabiul Hossain and Security Guard Rafiqul Islam, who were on-duty during the incident at the office, into their custody for queries.

The security agency lodged a case early Monday in this regard.

Our Dhaka Tribune Chittagong Correspondent Tarek Mahmud visited the spot but the security agency did not allow any newsman into their office and its premises, while Dhaka Tribune could not reach Tariq over mobile phone after repeated attempts.

Locals and police sources said the thief might be the employee of the security agency as a staff of the agency is on the run till filing of this report at 6:45pm.

The DC Paritosh said they were continuing their drives to nab the absconding staff of G4S while he did not leak out the name showing investigation reason.

The police official further said they are also looking into the matter whether G4S has any legal permission to store cash money.
