2 cases against SQ Chy sent to CID

A Chittagong court has ordered Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation to two cases filed against Salauddin Quader Chowdhury regarding arson and vandalism on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda of the district in 2010.

Court sources said District and Sessions Judge, AKM Nasiruddin Mahmud, on Tuesday ordered for further investigation of the cases.

The court also ordered Chief Judicial Magistrate, Munshi Mashiur Rahman, to decide who will look into the cases.

Later, prosecution pleaded before Chief Judicial Magistrate to give the investigation responsibility to CID.

The court granted prosecution’s plea and ordered CID to investigate further, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Abul Hashem of Chittagong district.

On November 7, 2010, miscreants vandalised some vehicles and set those on fire on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Banshbaria and Salimpur areas under Sitakunda hearing the rumour of SQ Chowdhury’s arrest and protesting the government’s decision that disallowed BNP Chairperson for holding a rally at Paltan in Dhaka.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Golam Faruk Bhuiyan of Sitakunda police station lodged two cases over the violence with Sitakunda police on that day where four persons were nabbed in this connection.

Later, two arrested accused gave their confessional statement before a Chittagong court under section 164 of CrPC where they mentioned that they conducted the violence by the order of SQ Chowdhury, who was awarded death penalty on October 1 in 2013 for committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.

Police submitted the charge sheets of the two cases against SQ Chowdhury mentioning prime accused in both cases where 10 others were sued in Banshbaria incident and six others in Salimpur incident apart from the prime accused who was nabbed from Dhaka on December 15, 2010.
