Idols vandalised at female councillor's house in Sylhet

Three Hindu idols of god and goddesses were vandalised at the residence of ward councillor of the women's reserved seat in Sylhet.

Diba Rani Dey, councillor of ward 16, 17 and 18, said her neighbour Abdul Motin and his family members vandalised idols, which were kept at the worship room, around 8am on.

But, Abdul Motin said Diba's husband Monindro called him in front of their house and vandalised the idols in his presence in order to put him in trouble as they had a long-standing dispute over a piece of land.

When contacted, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (media) Assistant Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ullah said: “We got two types of information regarding the vandalism of the idols. Diba and Abdul have given statements against each other.”

“Police have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The matter will be investigated.”
