A man has been killed in a fire allegedly set by his son at Pirujali Masterpara area in Gazipur.
The deceased is Abbas Ali, 55, of Bartopa in Shreepur.
Abbas succumbed to his burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning.
Pirujali UP Ward 1 Member Rafiqul Islam said: “Abbas's son Didarul Islam, 22, had been asking his father for money to go abroad.”
“Following the same matter, Didarul locked into a quarrel with his father on Saturday night. He locked his mother and sister in a room and set his father on fire who was sleeping in another room around 1:30am,” he said.
He said locals first took Abbas to Gazipur sadar hospital and later shifted him to DMCH.
DMCH police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector Haidar Ali said Abbas succumbed to his injuries around 6am.
Hatapara police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Harun-Ur-Rashid said: “Abbas used to stay with his wife and daughter at his in-laws house in Pirujali.”
“There was a conflict between Abbas and his son regarding the demand for money,” he said.
The SI said Abbas's wife Dufula Begum, 45, has been detained at Joydebpur police station for interrogation.
