Members of the Rapid Action Battalion picked up five more people from different areas in Dhaka and Munshiganj early yesterday for their alleged involvement with the sensational triple murder that took place at Moghbazar in the capital on August 28.
Of the five arrestees, four had been listed in the First Information Report (FIR). They are identified as Raju, 20, Opu, 30, Sohel Khan, 28, and Billal, 24.
Another arrestee named Kamal, 30, was not accused in the case, but he was a close associate of Kailla Babu, the prime suspect in the murder case who was killed in a “gunfight” with Detective Branch of police on September 15.
“Based on information, RAB-3 personnel arrested them after conducting raids in different places of Munshiganj and Moghbazar by mobile tracking for a long time,” Major Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed, deputy director of RAB-3, said at a press briefing at the battalion office in the capital's Tikatoli area.
He said during the primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they were involved with the killing. About the arrest of Kamal, he said they had arrested him as he was a close associate of the prime accused and he might give details about the killing and the others involved in it.
A gang of criminals shot dead three people, including a woman, and injured another at a house in Sonalibagh area of Moghbazar over illegal toll collection and land dispute. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Munna, 18, Billal Hossain, 20, and Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28. Ranu's brother Hridoy, 20, who was shot by the criminals, received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kala Chan, brother of Ranu, filed a case with Ramna police station in this regard the following day, accusing 15 people, including Babu.
With the arrest of these five people, a total of 18 people have so far been detained. Soon after the incident, police arrested four people. They also arrested three more people, including Babu, on September 15 and finally, RAB picked up six on September 20.
