No headway in Magura minority leader killing case

Even after nine days of the crime, police have failed to make any mentionable progress in the murder case of the Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikkya Parishad local leader Pankaj Bashu.

On the other hand, different organisations of the district have arranged many programmes in protest of the gruesome killing and demanded quick arrest of the culprits.

On September 12, some armed miscreants swooped on Pankaj Bashu, 52, a former executive member of Mohammadpur upazilla unit Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikkya Parishad, in the upazilla while he was going home. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. A case was filed with local police station accusing 15 people.

On Monday, the district unit of the parishad held a human chain at Chourangi square in the district town demanding arrest of the accused. Besides, the district unit Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad on the day held a discussion at the same venue. On Tuesday, Jatiyo Hindu Mohajote submitted a memorandum to the local DC in the regard.

When contacted, Hindu-Bouddh-Christian Oikkya Parishad district unit President Bashudeb Kundu blamed the indifference of police who have only made one arrest in the case in the last nine days.

Moreover, Pankaj’s family members were feeling insecure as the miscreants have been pressuring them to withdraw the case, the president continued.
