Police yesterday recovered the body of a 14-year-old housemaid from a doctor’s house in Gulshan in the capital.
She was identified as Reshma, daughter of Khoka Mia from Padmapukur of Mohadebpur in Naogaon.
Reshma worked for two and a half years at Dr Sheikh Moinul’s house at PDB quarters. Moniul, a staff at Dhaka Power Distribution Company, lives there with his wife and two children.
Moinul said he saw Reshma’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in the drawing room when he woke up in the morning and then called the police.
“We did not do anything to her that might have provoked her to take her life but we sometimes found her depressed,” he added.
Shikdar Mohitul, sub-inspector at Gulshan police station, told the Dhaka Tribune there was a black spot on Reshma’s neck when the body was recovered.
“The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy to check whether she was raped or tortured in any way,” he said.
“We did not find any sign of injury on her body. We will decide what to do after we get the autopsy report,” added Mohitul.
