Miscreants have shot dead a private university student and injured another in a brothel located at Daulatdia Rail Station under Goalanda upazila of the district on Sunday.
Deceased Md Ripon Mandal, 22, was a student of LLB final year course of Southeast University and son of Md Mohan Mandal of the upazila.
He was a student of Southeast University, according to Rajbari Press Club President.
Nurul Islam Mandal, Daulatdia union parishad chairman and also deceased uncle, said: “My nephew, Ripon, came to our house from the university few days ago. Some unknown friends called him over phone when he was staying at brothel. Then he went out of the brothel around 3:30am and miscreants shot him.”
Ripon died on the spot and his friend Farid received injury, he added.
Family members of Farid admitted him to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.
Gualanda police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Khaleque said police recovered the body and sent it to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
A case was filed with Goalanda police station in this connection.
In primary information provided by locals, the deceased was mentioned as a student of North South University.
