Milk adulteration: Pran, Brac dairies’ suppliers sued

Bogra district public health department has filed a case against three suppliers of Pran and BRAC dairies for allegedly adulterating milk in the district.

"The accused are Shah Alam, Shafiqul Islam and Shariful Islam of Pran and BRAC dairies,” Bogra Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shahdat Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.

In a special drive led by the Bogra public health department found that the profit mongers were allegedly producing the sub-standard milk in the recent-times in the district, posing threat to public health.

The dishonest milkmen produce about 300 liters of adulterated milk every day, claimed Saha, claimed AK Lutful Haq, Sonatala sanitary inspector.

They supplied some 700 liters of milk every day, he added.

Sanitary Inspector Ramchandra Saha said: “The Public Health Laboratory in the capital tested the samples of the milk of Pran and BRAC dairies located in Sonatala of Bogra and found that the milk did not have the required proportion of fat.”

"Some chemicals were used to turn fresh water into milk but we did not yet recognize the chemicals they use,” he said.

A case was filed on the basis of investigation and Public Health Laboratory report, he added.

In this regard, further investigation and special drive will be continued, Bogra Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shahadat Hossain said.
