Customs officials have arrested a person with 700gm gold worth some Tk50 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
The officials arrested Shah Alam, 35, when he arrived at the airport from Malaysia around 7:30am on Wednesday.
Customs Assistant Commissioner Sampriti Pramanik said: “He was arrested for carrying gold more than the permitted amount.”
“While scanning his luggage, we found nine small gold bars and a necklace in its handle,” she said.
As per the rules, a passenger can carry 200gm gold, she added.
