Stalkers assault 4 female students

At Mirpur, stalkers beat two female college students with a bamboo stick near Dhaka Zoo yesterday for protesting harassment. The victims are aged about 17. They are students of Mirpur BCIC College. Masudur Rahman, principal of the college, said: “Some local youths, who were hanging out in a shop on the pavement in front of the college, called them “farm chickens”, while the two were returning home from the college around 11am. When the girls protested, two youths named Babu and Jibon beat them with a bamboo stick and left the spot. “Later, we rescued the girls and informed police,” said Masudur. They were taken to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation. Father of the victims filed a complaint with Shah Ali police station. Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the incident. In Munshiganj, a school girl was hacked by miscreants at Chormodon area in Sirajdikhan upazila of the district as she refused a love proposal of an unidentified youth. The victim girl was Tahmina Akter, 15, a class X student of Roshunia High School in the upazila and daughter of Md Tofijuddin of the area. Yeardous Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan police station, said: “A group of miscreants stormed into Tahmina’s room and hacked her indiscriminately on Tuesday evening when she reached her home after an examination, leaving her critically injured.” Later, family members rescued her as she was lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to a local hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital later. “Being informed police rushed to the spot. Police are trying to arrest the miscreants,” added the OC. Leaders of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad yesterday urged law enforcers to arrest the culprits and bring them to book as soon as possible. Ayesha Khanam, president of the organisation, said: “Law enforcement agencies should take immediate action to stop attacks on girls.” She also said:  “Law enforcement agencies should provide gender sensitive training to the members working on such matters.” Earlier, on October 3, Khadiza, a 2nd year Degree student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was brutally hacked by BCL leader Badrul Alam of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit on her way back home after her examination at the MC College following the refusal of his advance. Meanwhile, another incident of hacking a girl by her stalker took place in Barisal. On Saturday, Razim, a stalker, hacked Niharika Haider Sathi, a second-year student of Barisal Government Women’s College, as she refused to accept his love proposal. Later, locals rescued the girl and sent her to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
