Schoolboy rescued one day after abduction in Comilla

Local people of Chauddagram in Comilla rescued a child who was abducted from Manoharganj of the same district, and handed the abductor over to the police yesterday.

The rescued child is Zahirul Islam, 7, the son of Golap Rahman, who is an expatriate in Saudi Arabia.

The abductor was identified as Badsha, 22, the son of Abu Hanif from Baishgaon village in Chauddagram.

Police sources said the locals saw Badsha and Zahirul in Baidder Bazar around 10pm on Thursday and suspected foul play. When they started questioning Badsha about the child, the abductor tried to flee the scene, but the locals caught him after a chase and informed the police. Police brought Badsha and Zahir to the police station around 2am yesterday. Later, around 11am, Zahir was returned to his Mother.

Zahir was abducted from his school on Thursday morning. Later, the criminals demanded Tk2 lakh from his mother over the phone. Zahir’s uncle filed a case regarding the abduction with Manoharganj police station on the same day.

The rescued boy said kidnappers forcefully took him on a CNG run auto-rickshaw and threatened him of killing if he had talked about the abduction to anybody.

Officer-in-Charge of Manoharganj police station Abdul Hai Sarkar said Badsha admitted that he abducted the child for money.

Police was investigating if anyone else was involved in the kidnapping, he added.
