An 11-year-old domestic help is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after allegedly being tortured by her employer.
The victim was identified as Sohagi, daughter of Kalim Uddin. She came to the capital from Malkana village of Shariatpur district.
Police recovered the girl yesterday from house no 39 situated on Green Road in the capital, said Kolabagan police station Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman.
According to Sohagi’s statement, yesterday morning Sohagi’s employer Sonia beat her up with a hot spatula and threw her out of the apartment situated on the seventh floor of the building.
As Sohagi was crying standing on the lobby outside the apartment, residents of other apartments of the building saw her. When they asked what happened, she described that she had been bearing inhumane torture from her employer.
Being informed, police rescued the girl and admitted her to DMCH. Sonia Akther was taken into custody, said the SI.
He said there were marks of injury on Sohagi’s face and different parts of body. Process for filing a case in this connection was going on.
Sohagi’s parents had been informed and they are on their way to the capital, SI Monir said.
In a weak voice, Sohagi told the Dhaka Tribune that Sonia used to torture her following complains of Sonia’s five-year-old daughter.
Yesterday she accidentally had broken a glass following which Sonia beat her up with hot spatula and threw her out of the house, she said while crying.
