Two Bangladeshis shot by Indian BSF across Satkhira border

Two Bangladeshi cattle traders were injured as Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot at them on the other side of the border at Sadar upazila in Satkhira yesterday.

They were Ziaur Rahman and Siddikur Rahman of the upazila’s Chhoighoria village.

Quoting locals, Kushkhali Union Parishad Chairman Abu Raihan told reporters that several cattle traders were returning with cows from India.

They were shot at and injured as they reached Khalisha border in India’s Bashirhat thana on the other side of Sadar upazila’s Kushkhali border, when Zia and Siddik received bullet injuries.

Their companions were able to rescue Zia and cross the border and he was now being treated at a secret location.

No fate of Zia could be known as he could not be rescued and brought across the border.

Satkhira 38 BGB Battalion acting captain Major Najir Ahmed Bakshi however could not confirm the occurrence of such an incident across the border.

He said they had not heard of any such incident. However, local BGB camp commander would be asked to be confirmed of the authenticity of the incident.

BSF-pulled the trigger casualties are a thorny issue along India-Bangladesh border.

Bangladesh will raise the border killing issue at the BGB-BSF summit talks to be held at the end of this month from August 20-25 in New Delhi

BGB DG Aziz Ahmed said: “We will raise the issue of border killings at the meeting.”

“We will continue to raise the issue until border killings are brought down to zero level,” he said.

Fence shootings by Indian soldiers against Bangladeshis have continued despite an Indian promise to halt border killings made last year at the border conference held in Dhaka.
