A robber ring leader has received bullet injuries during a “gunfight” between his cohorts and the law enforcers in Satkania upazila of Chittagong on Sunday night.
The police also arrested three robbers, including the wounded-person, after the “gunfight.”
The arrestees are Shahid alias Dakat Shahid, leader of the gang, also an accused of 11 cases lodged with Satkania Police Station, and his accomplices Borhan and Sayem.
Confirming the arrest, Khaled Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkania police station, said: “The law enforcers recovered two firearms, eight rounds of bullets and two machetes from their possession.”
“Acting on a tip-off, Satkania police raided Babunagar Ashrayan (shelter) project area at around 11pm, when Shahid, along with his accomplices were taking preparations for conducting a robbery.”
“Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, leaving Shahid injured. Some 30 rounds of bullets were exchanged during the gunfight,” he added.
The police said Shahid received bullets to his left leg while two of his cohorts and four policemen received minor injuries.
Shahid is now undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Two cases were lodged with Satkania police station in this connection.
