8 rescued while being trafficked overseas, 2 held

Eight people were rescued by police while they were being trafficked to Malaysia at Ukhiya Bazar in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar  on Sunday night.

Two people were arrested on charges of trafficking. The arreestees were Noman and Saiful.

The eight were Shamim, Sumon Miah, Shahin Akhter Rubel, Sohel, Ilias, Tarikul Islam Sagor and Bulbul Hossain. All of them are from Benapole of Jessore and were taken to police custody.

Aung Shah Thowai, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, said around 7:30pm police rescued the eight while they were about to be trafficked, and all of them were in a microbus.

The OC said they each had paid Tk1 lakh in advance to make the journey and were supposed to pay the remaining amount after reaching Malaysia.

A case was filed in this connection.
