Unknown assailants shot a local Awami League leader to death in front of his residence on Saturday night.
The victim was named as Jahangir Kabir, 45, son of Md Mustafa of Suani village under Atpara upazila of Netrokona district.
He was the President candidate of a Thana committee of Awami League and was a President of Mamata multi-purpose society, a local community initiative.
Parveen Akhter, wife of the deceased, said Jahangir was shot by some unknown assailants near house no 204 at west Agargaon while he was getting down from a car.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing a bullet shot, sensing them the assailants managed to flee from the scene.
Later, Jahangir rushed to a nearby hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead.
Kazi Ruhul Imam, Officer-in-Charge of Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
