A suspected criminal has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Hatirjheel area at Moghbazar in the capital on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (media) of DB Masudur Rahman has confirmed about death, reports UNB.
The identity of the deceased could not be identified immediately.
The incident took place at about 3:45am when a DB team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) challenged a young man aged 25-26 for his suspicious movement at Hatirjheel near Bangladesh Red Crescent Society headquarters at Moghbazar under Ramna police station.
Sensing danger, the armed hoodlum, who was riding a motorcycle, fired gunshots targeting the law enforcers.
The DB police members also returned fire prompting a brief gunfight.
During an exchange of fire, the young man received bullet wounds and he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
One pistol loaded with three bullets, one motorcycle and Tk47,500 were recovered from the criminal’s possession, police official said.
