A youth, who was allegedly involved with the abduction of a collage girl in Uttra, has been killed in a “gunfight” with the law enforcers in the capital Hatirjheel area early Friday.
The deceased, Apon, 28, received bullet injuries around 3:30am, while taking preparation to conduct looting, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre.
According to the officials of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police raided the Hatirjheel area around 3:30am, while “a gang of snatchers were takling preparation to conduct looting.”
“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang opened fire on the police, forcing the DB personnel to fire back, leaving Apon critically injured.
Apon was rescued and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the doctors declared him dead.”
The law enforcers recovered a pistol loaded with four rounds of bullets and seized a car from the spot. However, they could not arrest anyone as the criminals fled the scene, said Sub-Inspector Nur Ali of Badda Police Station.
DC Masudur said: “ Apon and his accomplices had been carrying out various types of criminal activities including abduction, toll collection and mugging in the capital's Rampura, Gulshan, Uttara and Khilgaon areas. He is one of the suspected abductors of a college student, who was picked up by a gang of criminals from Uttra.”
Earlier on July 4, unidentified miscreants abducted a 19-year-old college girl from the capital's Uttra area.
The miscreants also shot dead a security guard and injured a relative of the girl as they came to her rescue.
Later, police rescued the girl one hour after the incident and arrested four persons for their alleged involvement with the abduction of the girl and killing of the security guard.
